Collectorate Indore is headed by District Collector Indore. District Collectors are either from IAS or SAS Services. Till now District Indore has always been headed by Collectors from IAS Services.
Earlier this office was addressed as Collectorate meaning Office of the Collector and all its administrative heirarchy belonging to revenue and administration, but in 2010 this office has been transformed into an administrative complex housing most of the district offices like agriculture, food, Registrar Firms and Society, Police (West Zone), District Registrar stamps and regsitration, Excise etc. The idea was to place all District Departments close to Collector Indore in the same premises.
Law and Order and Revenue Collection are two most important primary functions of Collector; Besides these planning for development projects and implementation of Welfare Schemes are also supervised and monitored by District Collector.
