Kanch Mandir

Kanch Mandir, literally meaning Glass Temple, is a famous Jain temple located in Indore, built by Sir Seth Hukumchand Jain. Its construction began around 1903. Externally, the temple is built in the form of a medieval mansion with canopied balcony and shikhara. The interior of the Kanch Mandir is completely covered with glass panels and mosaics; including the floor, pillars, walls and ceiling.[2] Seth Hukumchand hired artisans from Jaipur and some from Iran to work on the temple. The ornamentation follows the old and medieval Jain style, with the major innovation being the use of multicoloured glass and mirrors. In the main sanctum, the idols of the Tirthankaras are surrounded by mirrors on both sides, thus making their images appear infinitely.
